The team played the 1997 season in Memphis and the 1998 season in Nashville at Vanderbilt Stadium. The team changed its name to Titans in 1999 to coincide with moving into their new stadium, LP Field.

The Tennessee Titans was organized in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League. The team played in Houston, Texas and was known as the Houston Oilers. The team relocated from Houston to Tennessee in 1997. Initially the team was known as the Tennessee Oilers. In 1999 the team name was changed to the Tennessee Titans.
