When players are in high limit games in casinos or at late stages of tournaments for World Series of Poker events, agents notice them and ask them to join their team. A player may ask to join a team, but they would need to be extremely good or possibly famous to be seriously considered.
You should keep in mind that you will not pick up sponsors right off the bat. But the best way is to be honest and through. When asking for sponsorships come in looking classy, tell them what you are looking for, and what you have to offer. As in, how often you practice, the league you wish to enter and things like that.
