I've been playing forward for 13 years and I'm still asking that question.

Typically a forward is fast really really fast. They also need to be quick on their feet and be able to react to the game in less than a second. You have to be able to anticipate what your teammates are going to do so that you can help them. It's helpful to know moves so that you can beat a defender in a 1 on 1 situation.

To be a good soccer player you need to know the game. By watching, even studying, the game of soccer you will be able to understand it better. You will eventually be able to read the field and predict what will happen next. This will enable you to act quickly and strategically during the game.

To be a better small forward, basically you need to become a better player, a more valuable one for your team. That means that you have to improve ballhandling, shooting percentage, making a habit out of driving to the basket and you need to learn some extra moves to overcome your opponent.
