The game, initial played by public school boys in the UK moved to the University's and forces of the time as these students moved on. The game then became very much a well to do mans game. However, more and more people especially through the University process came in to contact with the raw game of the time and this spread to those in local village teams and town teams especially in the northern areas of the industrial UK and across to Wales through mining communities.
