History states that Ty Cobb fought several umpires during his career, none on the field of play. This was at a time when umpires were shown very little respect and it was not unusual for players to attempt to intimidate umpires on the field.

If players tried to do something like that in today's game they would be suspended immediately and probably for a very long time.

There's no fun in playing it safe. Why not try something a little unhinged?

No. An umpire is a referee on the field. However, on the recommendation by the officiating staff, park security can (and has) removed patrons from the stands for violations of stadium regulations.

Yes, any umpire can throw a coach or player out of the game.
