From a flat open palm, the ball must be tossed 6in in the air. After reaching 6in, the ball must be struck while above the surface, strike your side of the table and then strike your opponent's side of the table.

Not sure what you mean by serving the ball "down". However, below is the official competition rule for serving as per the USA Table Tennis, a member of the ITTF (INTERNATIONAL TABLE TENNIS FEDERATION.

2.6 A GOOD SERVICE

2.6.1 Service shall start with the ball resting freely on the open palm of the server's

stationary free hand.

2.6.2 The server shall then project the ball near vertically upwards, without

imparting spin, so that it rises at least 16cm after leaving the palm of the free

hand and then falls without touching anything before being struck.

2.6.3 As the ball is falling the server shall strike it so that it touches first his court

and then, after passing over or around the net assembly, touches directly the

receiver's court; in doubles, the ball shall touch successively the right half

court of server and receiver.

2.6.4 From the start of service until it is struck, the ball shall be above the level of

the playing surface and behind the server's end line, and it shall not be hidden

from the receiver by any part of the body or clothing of the server or his

doubles partner; as soon as the ball has been projected, the server's free arm

shall be removed from the space between the server's body and the net.

Yes, as long as your service bounces once on your side of the table, and at least once on your opponent's side of the table. It can then go off the side of the table.

The only two occasions when your service cannot go off either side of the table are:

1) If your opponent is a wheelchair user

or

2) If you are playing doubles. In doubles you can only serve to the right half of the table, so obviously your serve cannot go off the left hand side of the table.

Only in doubles. If you're playing doubles then you serve from the right, crosscourt. If it's just singles then you can serve anywhere.

You cannot spin the ball when you throw it up while serving.

You can create spin from your racket on the serve though.

There is no rule specified saying you can not serve while sitting. Ping Pong is played by people who stand by choice and by people who permanently sit.
