Yes. In fact, there are two replicas. The original (the 1892 bowl part) is kept in a safe (opened to the public during visiting hours) at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Canada. There are two copies of the trophy (with a replica of the original 1892 part and several additions). One is called the 'presentation trophy' and the other the 'replica trophy'. The replica is put on display at the Hall of Fame when the presentation trophy is either in the possession of the Stanley Cup winning team, or at a function or event outside of the hall.
There are technically three versions of the "Stanley Cup": the original 1892 bowl or Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup, the 1963 authenticated "Presentation Cup", and the 1993 "Replica Cup" at the Hall of Fame.
The "real, original" Cup is in the Hockey Hall of Fame. In 1969, the league was worried that the original silver bowl might be getting brittle and could suffer damage. A replica was made and that is the one that is presented on ice and used by players in the summer when they have their day with the cup. The Stanley Cup in the Hockey Hall of Fame is the replica cup when the authentic Cup is presented to the Stanley Cup champions, with individuals on their days with it, and at other functions. When viewed closely, the two Cups can be differentiated because there are several name errors on the authentic Cup that are not present on the replica.
of all the sporting trophies in NOrht America, the 2 oldest are the Stanley Cup and the Grey Cup, and both are the only trophies wehre the winning team gets the actual trophy and not a replica
I have this replica. Try ebay, craigslist or replicatrophycollector. Or google around a bit, depends what size you're looking for but there are replicas out there alright.
The Stanley Cup received it's birth in 1892 by Lord Stanley of Preston. The trophy was originally called the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup and award to Canada's top ranked amateur team. In 1947, the cup became the ultimate prize in the NHL.
The Stanley Cup. It was named after the person who created it, Lord Stanley of Preston.
no
The original Stanley Cup is in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. It consists of only the bowl section and has been removed from the extensive base of silver rings and retired from service. There are two other Stanley Cups. One is used for presentations and touring, the other is an exact replica that is also permanently housed in the HHOF.
Stanley's Cup was created on 2006-11-15.
Yes or no, depending on what you mean by "real". There are three cups: the original cup, the authenticated cup, and the replica cup. The original Stanley Cup, the one purchased by Lord Stanley, became too fragile for the use and abuse associated with the award and was retired to the Hockey Hall of Fame. An exact replica, the authenticated cup, was created to take the place of the original and this is what is carried around by the players, taken to special events, etc. A perfect replica, without any mistakes or misspellings, is displayed at the Hockey Hall of Fame when the authenticated Cup is traveling. The last time the original Stanley Cup was awarded was sometime between 1962 and 1970. The NHL kept the creation of the new authenticated cup a secret so that it would be accepted as the real cup, and apparently it remains to this day a secret as to when the exact switch occurred, probably for the same reason (if anyone can find solid information as to when the switch was made please post it here). Value of the Stanley CupThe Stanley Cup is priceless.
Here's four: The Cup, Lord Stanley's Cup, The Holy Grail, or Lord Stanley's Mug.
