On September 26, 2007, Bill Wirtz, the long time owner of the Blackhawks, died after a brief battle with cancer. He was succeeded by his son, Rocky.
Before Jonathan Toews, who wore number 19 for the Chicago Blackhawks, the jersey was worn by center Michael Handzus during his time with the team from 2013 to 2014. Prior to Handzus, the number was famously worn by the legendary Blackhawks player, Denis Savard, who had an illustrious career with the team. Toews took over the number in the 2007-2008 season and became a key figure in the team's success.
