the thigh pads are on the inside of the football pants.

Some people put their thigh pads in their girdle. Obviously, if you don't have a girdle, this isn't an option. In such a case, the pads would be placed inside your pants.

Today, thigh pads in football are made out of plastic. They used to be made out of quilted materials dating back to the 1890's.

It's because in the NFL soft padding isn't mandatory, because they play professionally.

compared to if you playd for a club where you would have to due to extra safety
