Gold, silver, and bronze are the different color medals in the Olympics. The gold is the best and only the best in the Olympics can win it. Silver is the second place medal and that is still great. The bronze is the third place medal and that is still very good. If you win any medal or even make it to the Olympics, you are probably the best in the world. Great Britain won a total of 47 medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics; 19 gold, 13 silver, 15 bronze.

(It's their second largest gold tally in Olympic history, only eclipsed by a mammoth 56 won at the 1908 Lodon Olympics.)

The superstar of the Olympics was Chris Hoy, who won three gold medals in Cycling (team sprint, sprint and keirin).
