Well I dont know which sports are getting less popular,but i do know which sports are becoming more popular and the main one is Ice hockey. Becuz recently high schools in Wisconsin are making girls team for the high school. I hope this might help just a bit

Every ehange in a sport servers to attract a bigger audience. Sometimes it is intended to enhance the sport and the actual play of the game.

Hockey changed the rules in overtime to 4 on 4 skating to increase the chances of a goal in overtime. They also created the rule that a losing team does not lose their 1 point in overtime. This ignited teams to be more aggressive which was positive for the fan based.

Baseball changed the rules of the AL and NL beginning to play each other during the regular season. While I personally did not agree with the change, it attracted a large fan base to see these irregular teams. Highlighted matches were especially a crowd getter such as NY Yankees VS NY Mets, LA Dodgers VS LA Angels, Chicago White Sox VS Chicago Cubs, Florida Marlins VS Tampa Bay Rays, and the former Montreal Expos VS the Toronto Blue Jays.
