The sport/game of Badminton was derived from the game of poona. British soldiers played the game while in India. After going home they described the game to their friends and family. The Duke of Beaufort enjoyed playing the game on his estate, which was called Badminton. It became popular among the British elite and was named 'The Badminton Game'.

Badminton was first created in India and was called poona. It came to England when an English noble came back from travvelling in India and after watching the Indian children having great joy in playing poona started playing it back at home in England. his wife and him both disliked the name poona and so called it shuttlecock, this name was later dropped by King Henry VIII when he named it Badminton after a visit to a friends house which was Badminton House.
