It depends on the length of the fingers and sometimes the width but i got an 12". The one that i got works really well. Its a mizuno.

I would say he/she should use the size they are most comfortable with. If I were you I would make sure that the bat they chose is not to heavy for them and not to bulky. It really depends on how big you're six year old is.

At 9 years old he probably is not "big" enough for anything but a youth sized cup. Be sure to get the curved kind of cup, not a flat kind, especially if your boy is playing catcher!!!
