MLB teams draft players out of high school as they do out of college. 15 of the top 30 selections in the 2010 draft were high school students and not college students.
If one is fortunate enough to be drafted by an MLB team straight out of high school, they can elect to go to one of the drafting team's minor league rookie teams to begin their career and bypass college altogether.
