It has already affected the Olympics. Timing is now down to fractions of seconds. It used to be the first one to cross the finish line and everyone ran at once. Now they run heats allowing everyone to have a clear track to run on. Uniforms, shoes and goggles are all scientifically designed to provide the least resistance and best grip. Games are designed and held to maximize media exposure to allow competition to be watched around the world. And the best athletes in the world can be gathered together in a matter of days, instead of weeks of train and boat travel. Did you know that the rules of the javelin event had to be modified and the shape and materials of the javelin were changed, as athletes were throwing over 100m, putting spectators lives at risk!

Technology has impacted sports in many ways. Firstly, technology is used to improve help heal an athlete if he or she is injured. Technology is used to record sports events and technology is used to test if sports are safe or should be improved or changed in any way.

For example, in the Winter 2010 Olympics, a Georgian athlete died when (I believe the sport was speed sledding) speed sledding. He had gained too much speed and hurt his head against one of the posts holding up the structure. Indeed, it was a sad and unfortunate. Technology helped us by being able to replay the video recorded to help us adjust the track.

I hope this answers your question.
