This is a very tough question to answer accurately, as there is no way to count all the contests of all sizes that are held each weekend or each year. Grass roots contests happen all over the country, in each scene, every weekend throughout the year. In the summer, this number swells. A fair guess would be something like this: * Every weekend, throughout the year, non-summer months: 100 contests or more. 100 x 52 weeks = 5200. * Summer months: add another hundred per weekend: 100 x 12 weeks = 1200 * Weekday contests are more rare, but happen occasionally in summer.
