long boards have a wider trunk than a skate board so you can ride more and push less
compare it to the width of your board! the wider the board the lower and wider your trucks need to be!
The deck of the skateboard was plastic and could not hold a lot of weight on it. The trucks on the skateboard were poorly made too! Now they have wood decks and holds lots of weight! The trucks on the board are now made of better materials!

I have never had a skateboard with springs. The part you are probably talking about are the trucks, the metal piece under the board that the wheels and berings are attached to. If you were wondering if all trucks have springs i have never had trucks with springs either. Or any thing on a skateboard with springs and i have had lots of boards.
longboards trucks will work on a normal board. but they are usaly a lot less lite. they will also stick out a couple of inches on both sides.
Long board wheels or any skateboard wheels are generally made of polyurethane, ore just urethane. Long board wheels are generally softer and larger than regular skateboard wheels. The softer the wheel, the smoother and quieter the ride is, but hard, smaller wheels are good for landing tricks, but go slower and bumpier. Since long boards are generally not used for flip tricks, they can focus on speed and ride quality.
