Is pointe ballet dangerous?

yes point ballet is dangerous cause if you do something wrong in point shoes you can break you ankle !!!!!!!!!!!! Dancing en pointe can be dangerous if you try without the sufficient training. You usually start dancing en pointe after about 5 or 6 years of ballet training (this depends on how many lessons you have per week), and you must be 11 years old or older. When you are under 11 your bones are still growing and you could permanantly damage them. Your pointe shoes need to be carefully fitted, and you must be taught to tie the ribbons correctly, and sew on new ribbons. Your ballet teacher will carefully and slowly teach you to dance on your toes, and you must follow her instructions perfectly. At first you will probably only be allowed to dance en pointe under her careful supervision. If you follow instructions, and don't take risks you will be fine. It is said though that ballet dancers sometimes have problems with their feet (especially ankles and toes) later in life.

When should you go on point shoes?

Well it depends on when your ankles and feet are strong enough. Usaully about the age of 12 and have had years of experience of ballet. And also when your dance teacher thinks you are strong enough to go onto point. If your ankles arn't strong enough for point shoes you will experience some ankle issues.

How do ballet teachers decide when their students can do point?

A ballet teacher usually decides when to put his/her students on point when he/she sees that the girls' ankles are sturdy. I was 9 or 10 when I got my first pair, but some teachers like to keep their kids on flat (no pointe shoes) for a couple more years. If you are a ballet teacher, keep your students doing relevés on flat for a while to build sturdy ankles.

Is 2 years of ballet enough practice before dancing en pointe?

2 years of ballet is not enough practice. I have been taking ballet for 9 years and am still not ready. It also depends on your growth plate and how strong your ankles are.

Do you get your pointe shoes right away when you start ballet?

No, you don't. It is important to learn the basics of ballet before starting pointe work. Teachers suggest that you train for a few years to establish the required strength and technique.
