It is not possible for an out-of-shape individual to use any martial art as effectively as a fit person of the same skill. However, Martial Arts tend to be the best form of exercise and you would find yourself losing weight and getting fitter with very little life-style change if you took Capoeira up. That particular martial art might not be so useful in most street-fighting situations, however. The Capoeira exponents I have fought have relied too much on fancy footwork and are unused to making contact. Real-life combat is not a focus in most Capoeira groups, so you might want to consider a system that doesn't look as cool.
