In Spain dancing horses are still popular, and this is related to ballet. Ballet started out in the 15th century in France. It wasn't really anything like ballet is today. It was more like ballroom dancing in heavy, clunky costumes and shoes. Over time, it evolved into something more gymnastic and acrobatic like it is today. Women were forbidden to dance it, really. But the whole structure of ballet has changed from top to bottom. The clothing has become much lighter and revealing and the steps and movements are much more freeing.
