Well, to be honest, 3 years really is a very short time to dance. I have been dancing since I was two years old, and I'm almost 14, and I am nowhere near ready to even begin PRACTICING to get my pointe shoes... so if you danced for three years quit for a year, it really could honestly take you, like, 8 years to get pointe shoes...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It depends on the strength or your ankles and what other types of dance you partake in but i wouldn't risk it as it can cause much damage if done inappropriately

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hey there I'm fourteen and i have been dancing since I was 2 years old, too. I started Ballet 2 years ago, but i didnt do ballet at all last year. Now I take ballet/pointe class one day a week.

so, if you have only done "dance" a few years than it just depends on how good you are...to be serious and not to be rude, if you have done dance a long time but only ballet awhile then you might be able to do it...it just matters how good you are like the person above said...the strenght in your ankles. If you have strong ankles...go for it!! If you have consiterably weak ankles then try eating some potassium. That is what my classical ballet teacher suggests to thoes whose ankles ache.

You also need to consider the shape of your foot and toes. One girl in my class has toes that are like literally diagonal from her big toe to her pinky toe. This can make it difficult for you to do pointe, but not impossible. All you have to do is stuff something in the toe to even it out...but make sure your foot wont sink into the material you are using...

Keep in mind, ballet is the most difficult form of dancing, so you cannot be sloppy... EVER!! Always think about the exact spot where your feet, legs, arms, hands, head, neck, shoulders, hips, and just you're overall posture should be. You need to always look in the mirror unless your head is following your hand.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Listen up to the teacher. Pay attention. Don't talk. Have respect. Take everything seriously. But most importantly...have fun! Because ballet does takes massive amounts of maturity...most girls I know would have little patience and no respect to be able to do dance, so most girls choose cheer. Cheer is dance that has gotten warped and messed up and made ALOT easier!! So just remember that you are trying to live up to the word "ballerina" and show all those girls in your class that you are the best!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I dance at the most famous studio in Kentucky (Diana Evans School of Dance, look it up) and am very good, but I don't think I would consider trying to get my pointe shoes for quite a while... But if you think ur ready, go for it! It takes very strong ankles, determination, and you would have to practice so many times a week that you'd better be prepared to watch your social life go flying out the window... but, again, if this sounds appealing to you, then why not give it a try?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm 15 years old and started ballet when I was 12. (yes, I know... VERY late) They started me with beginning pointe my second year of dance, and then moved me up 5 levels to our advanced class over the past two years. I think it really doesn't matter how long you've been dancing, because I moved up a lot quicker than most girls who have been dancing three times as long as me. It really depends on your strength and determination! You should talk to your teacher and see if she thinks your ready:)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If something hurts (besides just the normal pinching), TELL YOUR TEACHER.

i hAVE been doing ballet for 4 months and i am on pointe shoes already. iam not even good! i have a pro etcaher

How many years of ballet experience should you have before you go on pointe?

Beginning pointe work doesn't always depend on how long you may have been dancing. For example if you are older than say 12 or 13 you may only need 1 or 2 years of ballet training before beginning pointe work. This is because pointe shoes can damage younger feet. However some young students are simply strong enough to hold themselves en pointe. Also it depends on what level of ballet you are. Once you reach pre-elementary then pointe shoes are compulsory if you wish to sit the exam for that grade. In preparation for pre-elementary then often dancers will spend 6 months or so before they reach senior ballet, preparing themselves and breaking in new pointe shoes so that the transition into senior ballet smoother. I hope this helps your ballet.

Can you go to Boston Ballet School if you only have 5 years experience and are 12 years old?

well, it depends on how good you are. There are many requirement, are you taking at a classical ballet school? how many days a week are you taking ballet? are you on pointe? how long? also, how serious are you about ballet? You have to be strong enough to take many classes a day. I have gone to Boston Ballet SDP for the past two years. I had 4, 5 classes a day, many of them on pointe.

What is Pointe who started this ballet trend?

Pointe is the art of dancing on the tip of your toes. It is done by using Pointe shoes, which have Pointe ribbons which support the dancers ankles and also the shoes have plaster of Paris in the toes to suppourt her feet. En Pointe takes years of work (as you can guess, I haven't mastered this yet!) ;)

Can you teach pointe to yourself?

if you are about to or are teaching yourself pointe work, stop! pointe work is for people with years of ballet training and 1 - 2 years of pre pointe or strengthening classes. like all things to do with ballet, you need to have a trained teacher to guide you through the proses and correct you when you go astray. pointe is dangerous enough as it is so tyring it without a proper teacher is going to be dangerous, recluse and down right stupid! nobody can teach themselves pointe. if they do they will ruin their feet and probably break something along the way. hope i helped!

Will you be able to start on pointe lessons without learning ballet?

=No way. Youhave to take ballet before pointe. If you don't you will get bad results...you would get hurt badly and might even some serious injuries. Injuries that will be with you the rest of your life. I gurantee you wouldn't even find anyone who would teach you without experiece.==I have been taking ballet for about 8 years. I am just starting pointe now. I am a very advanced dancer. 12 years old. In the highest class. And I'm now starting pointe. So you need to have at least 5 years before you start.=

Can you go en pointe at 12?

You could but if your ballet teacher has instructed you to. You have to at least practice ballet 3 times a week for a certain amount of years so that you will be strong enough to go on pointe.

How many years do you have to study ballet to be ready for pointe shoes?

It depends from person to person.

Am I ready for en pointe dancing if you have only danced ballet for 2 years but practices every day for an hour and is fexiable age 13 and has strong ankles?

Unfortunately, not. I am 12 and have danced ballet since I was 2, and I dance all the time, but I am still not ready to go on pointe. I will be going on pointe soon, but until then I am working on the strength of my ankles. 2 years dance experience sadly, isn't enough. I was very impatient when I was growing up, wanting to go on pointe, and I nearly gave up ballet. But don't give up ballet just because you aren't ready for pointe shoes, as ballet flats are still as good. If you are really serious about ballet, and you want to go on pointe in the next two/three years, tell your dance teacher that you are keen to push on and explain to her/him that you will work hard to progress. I wish you all the best with your ballet.

Do you get your pointe shoes right away when you start ballet?

No, you don't. It is important to learn the basics of ballet before starting pointe work. Teachers suggest that you train for a few years to establish the required strength and technique.

Can you take pointe without any experience?

No.Your supposed to take ballet for a couple of years. Pointe requires a lot of strength in the toes, feet, and legs. If you were to just put on pointe shoes and start dancing, you would have the risk of injuring yourself greatly. But if you have ballet experience, then pointe would be okay to try.

Is 2 years of ballet enough practice before dancing en pointe?

2 years of ballet is not enough practice. I have been taking ballet for 9 years and am still not ready. It also depends on your growth plate and how strong your ankles are.

How old do you have to be to go on pionte?

The average age for a ballet dancer to begin pointe is 12 years old. This allows time for the dancer's bones to develop. There is no specific age however, that one begins pointe. To begin pointe a dancer must not only have been trained in ballet for a number of years and have acheived a certain skill level, but they must also have acquired the neccesary muscles and strength in the ankle, legs etc. to begin pointe work. A dance teacher will be able to determine the physical readiness of a dancer in regards to begining pointe.
