And wearing tights, in most contexts, would get the boy labled as weird, gay or a crossdresser if he was to wear tights. To avoid this boys did not wear tights.

Today this trend continues in the form of both tights and leggings. Women have typically been the ones to wear leggings, which are a thicker form of tights. It is often viewed acceptable for women and girls to wear leggings. Its not not as acceptable for men and boys to wear leggings in most situations.
