The long jump consists of four key elements: approach run, takeoff, flight, and landing. The athlete must generate speed during the approach run, execute a powerful takeoff from the takeoff board, maximize distance during the flight phase using proper technique, and land securely in the sand pit to complete the jump.
back of the board for your approach and front for the jump
It is the run-up taken before a throw or jump.
The only run-up I know of is in high jump. Your running approach to the bar is called your 'run up.'
The pentathlon is made up of 5 events: 100m hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot put, and the 800m run.
you have to run and jump three times in a row
the approach; the take off; the air borne position and the landing.
The long jump is where you have a long strip of sand which you run to and jump as far as you can along it whilst the high jump is where there is a pole which the athletes have to jump over and it gets raised every time each athlete has jumped. :)

Two events in athletics use a sandpit: the long jump, and the triple jump.
