The longest documented shot on YouTube is 322 yards, or ~294.43 meters.
This was a test for an accurate shot where he shot a 9-inch balloon.
A crossbow can definitely shoot further, but accuracy becomes a problem.
If you were standing on flat terrain and shot up at a 45 degree angle, my guess is that most crossbows won't get much further than 400 yards(365.76 meters)
It depends on the draw weight of your bow .I have an older model PSE Mach 8...set up for what I estimate at 65 pound draw weight. I believe with the Easton Gamegetter arrow, I may be shooting at something around 250 feet per second. In my pasture, at about 45 degrees launch, I can pusg that arrow only about 350 yards. I thought it would go farther, but this is what I get. Rob
It really depends on the shooting style of archer and the draw weight of the bow. Typically, a 90lb compound bow can easily shoot over 300 yards.
For Sighted Shooting with aiming aid, compound bow can easily shoot about 80 yard without problem. As least it's to my case. My bow is 65 pound and can shoot sighted shooting at about 95 yard at the edge of my aiming aid.
For Instinctive Shooting, where Archery feels the performance of a bow, without aiming aid, can shoot accurately at over 180 yard.
The unofficial furthest shot by compound bow is recorded as 1162 yards. The draw weight of the bow was about 65 pound.
The official furthest shot by a hand-held hand-drawn bow is recorded in the world record as 1336 yard in 1987 by Don Brown. The bow looks like a long bow but in fact very small. (kind of like what a short bow in modern Video Games)
WRONG ANSWER
If your shooting requires more distance than 50 yards, a Compound bow is almost a must. I have heard it said at more than one archery contest that the Indians would have won the wars if the Indians used Compound bows.
The answer to this depends on the design of both the bow and the arrow, as well some factors not under the control of any human (such as wind, humidity, temperature, etc); because of the distances involved, flight shooting competitions are held outdoors.
In flight shooting, where the object is to shoot an arrow as far as possible, distances of up to 1222 meters (1336 yards) or more are achieved; the arrows are designed to be extremely light-weight, but strong enough to withstand the forces exerted on them when the bowstring is released. As of 2008, the FITA Men's record distance for a hand-held bow was 1222.01 meters, by Don Brown of the U.S.A. ("unlimited" division of the Conventional Flight bow category), on the 2nd of August 1987.
The FITA Men's record distance for any type of bow (again, as of 2008) was 1410.87 meters, by Harry Drake of the U.S.A. ("unlimited", Footbow category) on the 6th of October 1979.
Note: These record figures are only for FITA flight shooting competitions. There are other flight shooting competitions held/sponsored by other archery organizations around the world, and the World Record Flight Distance may have been achieved by someone at one of those other competitions, or even the 2009 FITA Flight Competition.
a BOLT is SHOT from a crossbow, you FIRE a GUN, you SHOOT a bow
A arrow/bolt that is made to fit the crossbow.
A crossbow arrow is called a Bolt or a Quarrelx
The crossbow will let you create a way into the Princess tower. Get the rope from the water wheel at the mill and tie it to an arrow. Aim up to the left and shoot until you hit the door.
A crossbow.
If you are a good shot!
It depends who shoots it
About 300 meters to 500 meters a crossbow can shoot. Also our ancestors were and are stronger then use. If we challenged them with laser or any other automatic gun weapon they would destroy use.
to use a crossbow you need to noch the arrow in the string then pull back or wind up the string.
you shoot and arrow because if you notice you fire a gun it involves fire comming from gun powder. there is no fire when you shoot an arrow
There are 3D targets that are specifically build and designed to take hits from a crossbow.
No and no. Specifically, arrows for bows are longer and more flexible as a slight flex can improve an arrow's flight, but crossbows would be too powerful and break the arrow. Crossbow bolts/quarrels are far too short to be used correctly in a bow, as a real archer would never partially draw the bow to shoot an arrow, yet a bolt would not be long enough for the archer to draw back to his or her anchor point (that same place on their face they always draw back to, to make shots powerful and consistent).
