Aluminum (aircraft aluminum) decks are significantly stronger and lighter than maple ply decks and will easily last longer than you want to ride it. Aluminum decks typically are more stable at high speed because they are less flexable. They are almost unbreakable, mine was run over by a car, bowed belly to pavement and sprung back without damage. The down side is that aluminum decks are stiffer so lighter skaters have a tougher time using the flex for stunts. The aluminum will slide faster rubbing against a steel railing. Doing 360s and similar tail or nose grinding will sharpen the tail and nose like a knife, hard on ankles. Can use a dremel grinder to round it easily.
