The first batsman to score a century in a One-Day International was Dennis Amiss - interestingly, of the five times Amiss reached 50 runs in One Day Internationals, he topped the century four times. This first century, achieved in the second One Day International between England and Australia at Manchester's Old Trafford ground took place on August 24, 1972. His innings totalled 103 runs in 134 balls, an innings which included 9 fours.
Amiss played first-class cricket for Warwickshire for 28 seasons.
Amiss also scored the second One Day International century, almost eleven months later, against New Zealand on July 18, 1973.
