Michelle Waterson’s next fight is set for Saturday, Oct. 12, against Joanna Jędrzejczyk in the main event of UFC Fight Night. The event will air on ESPN+.

The fight, though, is currently in jeopardy, as Jędrzejczyk reportedly informed the UFC that she won’t be able to make the 116-pound limit for strawweight competition; Waterson’s camp, thus far, has refused to meet her at a catchweight. Talks are reportedly ongoing.

What a Jędrzejczyk dropout would mean for Waterson, the 17-6 fighter known as “The Karate Hottie,” is unclear. The UFC is considering cancelling the fight and bumping the bout between Cub Swanson and the undefeated Kron Gracie to the main event slot. They may give Waterson a fight at UFC 244 on Nov. 2, or they could reschedule her fight with Jędrzejczyk.

If Waterson vs. Jędrzejczyk does occur, Waterson will look to upset the decorated former champion; while Jędrzejczyk last appeared in a loss in December 2018, Waterson is riding a 3-fight winning streak that began in April of that year. Her last two victories came by unanimous decision.
