The regular 3rd baseman for the 1954 Cleveland Indians was Al Rosen who played 3rd in 87 games for the American League champions. Rosen hit an even .300, while belting 24 homers and driving in 102 runs for the Tribe, who were swept by the New York Giants in the World Series that was highlighted by Willie May's over the shoulder catch in deep center field in the Polo Grounds off a drive by Indians' first baseman Vic Wertz that many claimed was the turning point of the Series. In addition to Rosen, Rudy Regalado played 3rd base in another 50 games for Cleveland that season. The rest of the regular Indians starters were: 1st base-Wertz; 2nd base-Bobby Avila; SS-George Strickland; 3rd base-Rosen; Of-Dave Philley, Larry Doby, and Al Smith; Catcher-Jim Hegan. The pitching staff inclued Mike Garcia (19-8), Art Houtteman (15-7) and Bob Feller (13-3), plus two of the top relievers of the era, Don Mossi and Ray Narleski. The 1954 Indians set a new American League record by winning 111 games that season to edge out the New York Yankees for the AL pennant.
