The first championship race was held in 1950 at Silverstone.

This was not the first race held to be held under (International) Formula 1 rules technically but it was the first world championship race.

The Formula One car came from the issuance of the regulations detailing the Formula for the class.

So really there were several Formula one cars invented for the first race in 1947 and the world championship beginning in 1950

But... and there is always a Butt most people consider Pre-second world war racing to be Formula 1 also... but technically the current series is the only valid answer.

The first F1 race originally scheduled (Grand Prix of Bahrain) was postponed due to unrest in the country ... the next race scheduled is the Grand Prix of Australia due to be run on March 27.

The first-ever Formula 1 Grand Prix was held at the Silverstone Circuit for the British Grand Prix. It was held on May 13th, 1950 and was won by 1950 World Champion, Giuseppe "Nino" Farina.
