It depend on a number of variables, the sponsors and number of sponsors, the contract they signed, and more importantly, "How good they are" Bonuses can/could be paid for hole-shots, wins, places and so-on. The more wins they have, the more valuable they become. Ricky Carmichael had a contract with Honda for 2 million dollars a year. So if they are good enough, the monies can be substantial.
Well in fmx, basically if well known, and stay in the tops 1-3 in events u will be making around 200,000 a year. So basically if u want to make a living amount, u gotta be in the mulisha. The only well know riding group. If ur talking MX only then again if u want to make a living u have to be good, like top 1-10 in races all the time.
