If the batter is right handed, they will stand to the left of the plate, looking over their left shoulder at the pitcher. Rule 1.04 of the Official Rules states that "It is desirable that the line from home base through the pitchers plate to second base shall run East-Northeast." If all ballparks adhered to this suggestion, then there would be no home plate that faces north. However, one can tell from the variation in shadows between parks in say, Boston, Milwaukee, and San Francisco, that there are definite variations in the placement of the field. It would take a survey of the 30 major league ballparks to determine if any of them face north.
