The heavy metal ball (shot) is cradled in one hand against the side of the neck. The thrower assumes a semi-crouch, then turns or spins to gain momentum. At the proper point, he uncrouches to full height, pushing the shot forward with the entire body as the arm extends straight from the shoulder, to thrust it outward and upward. This "explosion" of bodily motion imparts the necessary velocity to the shot.

Its good to have a run up like 3 steps and at the start i tend to do like a swing with my arms then run up. Im really upset because i was a realllllyyyy good shot puter and then a new girl came and she is really! big. she is throwing 8.70 and im throwing 7.98 . it sucks , all i want to do is win that. u have no idea how upset i am. i hope you can go well and remember its good to hold the shotput in your fingertips. serious. good luckamber Cullen
Look up glide technique, it will improve your throw after a few weeks of training correctly (make sure you have a coach there to help with the technique). Also do weight training, plyometrics, sprinting and practice drills.
Here are a few tips. Keep your elbow up when throwing- dropping the elbow wastes a lot of potential power and therefore weakens the throw. Try to throw at a 45 degree angle- don't throw too high or too low. Use your legs- even though the throw comes from the arm, much of the power is from the legs, so stay low and use that power in a powerful burst that will help the object fly farther.
Build your triceps at the gym and work on technique which one your got at The glide, Spin, or just out of the power position, just practice alot on technique and you'll get better.
