Terrible poser bikes: ANY TYPE OF BIKE YOU BUY FROM EITHER Walmart, DICKS, ACADEMY, OR ANY PLACE THAT DOES NOT SPECIALIZE IN BIKES. Intermediate/Beginner: Haro, Diamondback, DK, Huffy, Hoffman (Hoffman is questionable), Redline, Schwinn (Depends on the model. ex:Schwinn Predator is a decent bike) Good/Pro (NOT ALL OF THESE COMPANIES SELL COMPLETE BIKES, SOME ONLY MAKE CERTAIN PARTS: TerribleOne, Eastern, FBM, Standard (Yes that is a company name), Stolen, FlyBikes, Animal, Odyssey, Dirt Monster, Custom (Yes that is a company name), Sunday, S&M, GT, etc.
There's no bike that's best for beginners as such. All brands have bikes of various versions, price range and intended uses. As a beginner I'd suggest you start with a used bike, either from a yardsale or something. This'll give you the chance of finding out what you like in a bike w/o spending lots of money on dead-ends.
