To put it simply, double bouncing is the use of a trampoline by at least two people at the same time. Ultimately, the actions of one bouncer will affect the rebound of the others. By double bouncing, you can jump much higher than you would if you were bouncing on your own.
Basically, you use the weight of two or more people to avert the mat of the trampoline downward and store more energy in the trampoline springs.
Now that we’ve got the technical stuff out of the way, let’s see how the double bounce trick is really done.
How to do a double bounce on a trampoline
Let’s say you're performing the double bounce with two bouncers. The first one will be bouncer A and the second will be bouncer B.
Bouncer A is located in the center of the trampoline and should start bouncing. Bouncer B is located near the edge of the trampoline and should be standing still.
After a while, bouncer B needs to start jumping as well. Now, the tricky part is the timing.
Basically, bouncer A needs to hit the trampoline so it stretches towards the ground. At that moment, bouncer B needs to start jumping. So, person B is actually catapulting person A higher and higher with every timed jump.
If you don’t time your bounces correctly, there won’t be a double bounce effect. Furthermore, person A will bounce less and less, and it will feel like their bounce is being “stolen” or “absorbed” by the other bouncer. Who said physics wasn’t interesting? If you would like to be the one who gets double bounced, then you should know that there are a few steps involved. If you follow them closely, you’ll be double bouncing in no time!
Step #1: Position yourself on the trampoline
First of all, it’s important to know where each person needs to stand. Since you are the one being double bounced, you need to position yourself in the middle of the trampoline.
There are a couple starter positions that you can take when you’re waiting to be double bounced, but we’ll be covering the most basic one first.
Step #2: Position the other person on the trampoline
The other person needs to stay in one of the corners of the trampoline. Or if the trampoline is round, they need to stay as near the edge as possible.
Step #3: Start jumping
Now it’s time for you to start jumping. It doesn’t really matter how high, it's just important to keep jumping.
Once the other person starts jumping, you’ll start bouncing higher and higher.
You can choose to remain in the same position as in the beginning, or you can do a backdrop or any other trick you would like to add to the mix.
