Usually the driver if the hole starts on a par four or five. It's rare that they start on a par three. So on some par threes, there are people who can get to the green easily so they use an iron. Some are not to powerful so they use the driver. It depends what yardage it is.

Answer A driver such as a 1, 2 or 3 wood is normal for the long holes, my preferance was a 3 Iron for the shorter holes.

All of them. Anyone who says "just use a 7 iron", you look at that person suspiciously. Think about it: Did you ever see a golfer come attend a tournament with less than a full set? I have worked many tournaments and I have NEVER seen that.

You want to use EVERY tool to your advantage. Think about it. Winners of the tournament are paid handsomely. There are prizes for the first 3 or 4 winners.

A full set includes: a driver (or two drivers; maybe one at for example at 19 degrees) , a number 3 wood, irons 2-9, sand and pitching wedges, and a putter. Some players say that the hybrids are good also.

A golfer can carry 14 clubs in his bag. They consist of Woods, Irons, and a putter. The woods are used to tee off. (That means to hit the ball when it is up on a tee.) The irons are used to hit the ball when it is on the fair way or in the sand trap. The putter is used when the ball is on the green. It is used to putt the ball in the hole.

The Woods are labeled 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.

The irons are labeled 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.

A golfer chooses which clubs to carry.

Normally, a golfer will tee off with a one wood. That hits the ball the greatest distance. The lower the number, the greater the distance. However, the lower the number, the more likely, the player is likely to slice or hook the ball. (The terms slice and hook mean hit the ball to the left or right instead of hit it straight ahead.) A golfer will usually carry a one, three, and four wood. That leaves 10 clubs. (He also needs a putter.)

A regular golfer might start with a 3 iron and go through 11 and a sand wedge.

Only a few professional golfers use a 1 iron.
