As long as you are alive you are already burning calories. And some of those calories come from fat. And the more physically active you are - the more you use your muscles - the more calories and fat you burn. I'll use up about 1000 cals/hour working real hard, which are about 30-50% from fat.

no. i would recommend a tredmill its more intense for losing weight while your on a bike you're sitting down and not burning as much calories Any method that you're able to stick to and can get your heart rate elevated is a good method for losing weight, you can dawdle on a treadmill as well as on a bike. RIding hard can use up 800 calories/hour which is pretty darn good exercise any way you look at it. Bikes are good because they offer a low impact method of exercising, which can be important if you're significantly overweight.
Depends on how hard and for how long you go at it, and what your eating habits are like.
If you ride for for about one hour/day, at a level of effort that gets you sweaty and winded, it can use up a decent amount of calories - which certainly can help with weight loss.
But if you're overeating badly, one hour won't be enough to to let you lose any weight.
Likewise, if you're just casually turning the pedals you won't use up any important amount either.
Depends on how hard, for how long you go at it, and when you last had a meal. The body is lazy, and turning fat into energy is harder than than using up the energy already stored in the body in other shapes. So before your body will start to burn fat, you have to use up all of the other energy first. As a rough rule-of-thumb, it takes about 45 minutes to use up the "easy" energy, and it's only after that your body will turn to fat. If you do your exercise before breakfast, pretty much all of the easy energy has been used up during the night, so the body has little choice but to go directly onto fat burn. Even if this is effective for fat burn, it isn't all good though. Fat-to-energy is a slower process, so you can't train as hard as you would have been doing otherwise. Not that effective if you're looking to improve strength and/or stamina. There's nothing special about riding a bike.
Yes it is, It's low impact, windspeed can cool you off a little, and can be used to combine exercise with running errands/going to work/school etc.(dependent on distances of course)
Absolutely Its a great way to burn fat and calories fast! Even spin class (stationed cycling) can burn up to 1400 calories per hour!
No, as it involves no physical exercise at a considerable level. Try cycling instead
