Firstly, make sure you feet and shoulders are parallel to the target, make sure the club face is square, some people say, aim the the edges of the grooves at the target.

A good tip is to put a club down at your feet, or an alignment stick, then set your feet, shoulders and club face parallel to it. You cannot do this is competition though, merely a good practice tip.
