The numbers are mostly just a serial code or model number not the weight.

Second Response:
If you are referring to house balls (rented by the alley) then yes, the number (6 through 16) indicates the weight of the Bowling ball.

without a scale it is hard to tell. HOWEVER! if you hold the ball out with one hand fully extended away from your body then you can throw that ball. do so until it is difficult to hold. that is the weight you should use.
