Have to - no. But compared to all who try, there are very, very few people who make it as pros. Even among those who get picked, only a few make enough Money of it to survive. The smart thing to do is to stay in school, learn something else you can do for a living. Keep an option open for what to do after the pro career - if you'd manage to have one.

As much education as you want! I agree; if you are good enough to go pro you really don't need a great education. I would suggest mechanics would be helpful and if you plan to become professional it would be a good idea to be able to read and understand contracts.
