Not everyone agrees on the NFL season's length. Some say it is too short while others say it's fine where it is. The main reason most feel it is as short as it is now is because not too many people want the season to run through the whole year.

Football is a very demanding sport physically (the toll it takes on their bodies), mentallly (the concentration they have to put on each game that may take away from family, friends, etc), and emotionally(it is more losses they have to put up with, more drama during game play, etc), so just lengthening it as if it would have no consequence to the players of the game can be seen as selfish and to some unnecessary. While it is their jobs to play, it shouldn't be forgotten that they are human beings with feelings and not just robots there to entertain the crowds.

On the other hand, there has been plenty of talk that the season may gain an extra two games in the regular season (taking away from the last two preseason games) making it an 18 game schedule for the regular season, but no one is sure. There are those who say it is necessary so that people can enjoy more football and there may even be players completely on board with this idea for reasons of their own.(more game play to show their skill, they really love football, better shot at winning the Big Game, etc) But others still say nothing is wrong with how it is now and that in a lot of cases, absence makes the heart grow fonder.
