Most countries are already obsessed with futbal (soccer) and the fan base being split into another sport that generally plays at the same time of year would be detrimental to both sport's bottom lines. Especially football, since the cost of insurance, team licensing costs, stadium upkeep, players salaries, union dues, etc, are so high.
There is also speculation that most people outside of America are physically unable to play such an intense, high impact game at the same level as Americans. Average size in most developing countries and even some of the first world would make their teams un-competitive at best. Imagine a Korean team trying to break through a goalline defense.
