soccer... more commonly spelled futbol. Internationally, the game of American football is known as 'gridiron'. The vast majority of the world calls soccer football. Only in North America is football called soccer and gridiron called football.
The NFL started in 1920 and the Canadian Football Leauge started in 1958.
Billy Shaw, a guard for the Buffalo Bills from 1961 to 1969, played his entire career in the American Football League. He retired the year before the AFL teams merged with the teams of the National Football League. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999.
The NFL is only played in the United States. If you mean how many countries play American football, there are 52 countries registered with the International Federation of American Football as of 2010. It's only a well-known sport in the USA and Canada, although it enjoys a respectable following in the UK, Japan, and Germany.
It depends on which code of football you are referring to. European football has been played for hundreds of years, Gaelic Football for over a thousand years, American Football and Australian Rules Football are very recent versions or codes and only played for 150 to 200 years. You need to specify which code e.g. soccer, gridiron auusie rules, rugby, gaelic football etc.
Football is the only one i can think of
ANSWER. Football is football where ever you are. There is only one football. American football is known as gridiron outside of north America, or American style rugby in China. American football is not played much outside the USA. It is unknown in most countries. Rugby is far more popular worldwide than gridiron.
It requires expensive equipment, it can be very dangerous if played without special training, its rules are difficult to understand, and it has too many breaks in the action.
The American Football League changed their name to the National Football League because not only America was playing it. I mean Football was started in the U.k by Walter Camp. Football is a National sport so there for the name was changed.
Because American and Canadian football are only played in those countries, respectively. And they have both not made appeals to the IOC... yet.
Yes, all the teams in the NFL play in the united states, however American football as a sport is played in other countries, such as the UK. Recently a Pro football NFL game has been played in other counties. I know that last october the saints played against the chargers in wembley, and this year the Patriots are playing against the buccaneers at wembley. (Go patriots!)
Currently, NFL franchises only exist in the United States. However, exhibition games are sometimes played in other countries.

Globally, the world's favourite sport is football (not American football). Sports such as baseball and American football are only popular in America. Football is the most popular sport in South America, Asia, Africa and in Europe. The World Cup Final was watched by nearly 300 million viewers, and throughout the tournament, there were and estimated 1.7 billion independent viewers.
The game is American football. The US class this as a key sport for their country. If you consider the sheer size of America its in proportion with Europe. So the viewer levels are very high and compare with soccer in the European countries. Plus American Football is played outside the US. Its still emerging but it is followed by many other countries
