Another immortal announcer for the Yankees is The Scooter, Phil Rizzuto, former player turned announcer who stopped calling play by play in the late 80's or early 90's.

Along with Mel Allen, I'd have to add in "the old redhead", Red Barber. Both he and Mel are in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
