Some major league cities are large enough to support two teams. The New York Yankees are in the American League, while the New York Mets are in the National League. Before 1958, New York had three teams -- the Yankees, the New York Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Some Yankees were Caucasian; some were African American. Their uniforms were blue.
I am adding to the answer because the information supplied by the responder has some noteworthy information on the NY Yankees. That answer can be seen in the last two paragraphs. The best New York Yankee lifetime winning percentage by a starting picther is held by Lefty Gomez. He pitched in the 1930's and had a winning percentage of .839. Whitey Ford had a career .690 win percentage for a career, one of the best for any team. Ron Guidry's .893 win percentage in 1978 is also one of the best for any starting pitcher on any team.
I believe it was the Texas Rangers. Some time in mid-June. But the game was not played that day. There was a long rain delay and the game was called. Needless to say, some 10,000 New Yorkers with bats in their hands were not happy about that decision! Some stadium seats were "harmed".
Basically, A.J. Burnett was not the same pitcher the Yankees got from Toronto. He had a large contract and never really excelled in the Yankees rotation since he joined the team. Some pitchers just have a problem pitching in New York, with the added pressure of a big stage, the constant media attention and the overall high standards that the organization puts on players. A.J. was a very good pitcher in Toronto and he has now seemed to find a home in Pittsburgh.
