Carl Lewis (USA)* 'won' the 1988 Olympic 100m gold medal in a world record time of 9.92, in the progress becoming he became the first man to defend his 100m Olympic title.

*Ben Johnson (Canada) originally finished first with a world record time of 9.79 but three days after his victory he was stripped of the gold medal after testing positive for performance-enhancing drug use, steroids.

The IOC officially disqualified and stripped Ben off both his Olympic Gold Medal and World Record and awarded the gold to silver medallist, Carl Lewis.
