Steve shutt
Yvan Cournoyer, whose number is among those retired by the Canadiens. (Steve Shutt wore #22)
You're correct that Cournoyer's number was retired in his honor (as well as honoring Dickie Moore), but several Canadiens wore #12 after Cournoyer retired in 1979. Keith Acton wore it in the early 80's, as did Serge Boisvert. Mike Keane wore it in the early 90's before he was traded to Colorado with Patrick Roy.
Frank Mahovlich was the last Montreal Canadien to wear No. 10 before Guy Lafleur. The "Big M" was traded from Detroit to Montreal for Bill Collins, Mickey Redmond and Guy Charron just prior to the 1971 trade deadline and joined the club in Minneapolis, where the Habs were playing the Minnesota North Stars. Because Montreal had no No. 27 available (the number Frank had made famous with Toronto and Detroit), he was given No. 10, which had been Collins number before he was traded. Mahovlich wore No. 10 for two games before the team returned to Montreal and he was given his familiar No. 27. I believe it was Ted Harris, who was a defenseman for the Habs. it was C.McDonld
Either the last man (sweeper) or left/right defenders wear the number 2 jersey
No, he did not wear no. 3 He wore 4,8,12,17 and 20 You can check the Montreal Canadiens site at http://ourhistory.canadiens.com/player/Jean-Beliveau
Marshall Faulk
Currently, Yankees closer Mariano Rivera wears number 42. Mariano is the last day to day player to wear that number in Major League baseball, and upon his retirement or change of number, will be the last to ever wear the number 42.
