Mine That Bird is a $9,000 thoroughbred race horse. Like all Kentucky Derby horses, he was 3 years old. He was ridden by Calvin H. Borel [b. November 8, 1966] and was 6-7 lengths ahead of the other horses when he crossed the finish line.

Specifically, Mine That Bird [foaled May 10, 2006] covered the 1-1/4 mile [2 kilometers; 10 furlongs] dirt track in 2:02.66 minutes. He thereby became the ninth gelding to win the Derby. In fact, he became the second gelding to have won since 1929.

Monarchos won the Kentucky Derby in 2001. He ran the second fastest Derby ever recorded, behind Secretariat. He is one of only two horses (the other being Secretariat, of course) to get a time under 2 minutes.

Fusaichi Pegasus [foaled April12, 1997] was the winning horse in the 2007 Kentucky Derby. His winning jockey was Kent Jason Desormeaux [February 27, 1970]. The horse's unusual name, which combines his owner's first name and that of the winged horses of ancient Greek legends, often is shortened affectionately to 'FuPeg'.
