Darn good question. I am not sure who was first actually called a point guard. My best guesses would be Dick McGuire or Bob Cousy. The position was really invented by play-making floor generals like Andy Phillip, Bob Davies {the Harrisburg Houdini}, Slater Martin, Cousy and McGuire {Tricky Dick}. All were noted for slick ball handling and passing skills; as well as the knack for setting up team mates to score. In 1952, Philip totaled more than 500 assists, and averaged over 8 per game for the Philadelphia Warriors. Cousy surpassed 500 assists a year later. I am guessing Davies was the first point guard; as he was the oldest, though I am not sure the term was in use while he was still playing. BTW, my favorite point guards were Mo Cheeks and Larry Drew.
STEVE NASH!!! just a wild guess...Dude, it is by far the Lakers Derek Fisher and always has been!!!
