Gridiron football (not futbol or soccer) was actually born in Canada by British soldiers against civilians in a game in Toronto on November 9, 1861. It has been modified since then.
American Football descended from Rugby about 1869. It wasn't until the 1880's that the rules were standardized which made American Football different from Rugby. The rule adoption was led by Walter Camp of Yale University.
Walter Camp is often called the "father of American football" and was responsible for many of its innovations, including the line of scrimmage, the first scoring system, and the down-and-distance system. However, there was no single person who founded or invented American football. It evolved out of kicking-style games played on Ivy League campuses as early as the 1820s. A standardized set of rules, based on the English rugby code, was drawn up in the 1870s, and over the next 40 years, several modifications eventually turned it into the game we know, including the legalization of the forward pass.
Walter camp created the football used in American football. He was a graduate of Yale and invented the game in 1820. Since then, the game has grown to be a multi billion dollar industry professionally.
