Too freaking many. Hey Payton, take a page from Tom Brady... less time on TV, more time winning Superbowls.
It was smart in the football sense in that Landry was reaching the end of his career, the Cowboys teams were constantly losing, and Landry himself refused to change his approach. Most people were simply mad at the way Jones fired Landry, he kind of just came in and said you're fired and replaced with him Jimmy. It was a tough move as the Cowboys weren't going anywhere and it didn't seem like Landry would retire unless he died so it had to be done, it just could have been done much more smoothly.
They were guided for three decades or more by the winningest coaches in NFL history --Don Shula with the Miami Dolphins and the Baltimore Colts (347 wins), George Halas with the Chicago Bears (318 wins) and Tom Landry with the Dallas Cowboys (270 wins).

There are two periods when they were in their prime - 1970-81, when they won two Superbowls, went to three others, and became America's Team, and 1991-9, when they won three more Superbowls and were the most famously raucous bunch in the history of pro sports.
